MAKING DELICIOUS
WE'RE ON A MISSION TO MAKE
DELICIOUS NUTRITIOUS FOR EVERYONE
HapPea Fries wants to delight and excite our customers through inspirational, inventive, delicious and nutritious flavor.
HapPea Fries Founder Suzanne Franks believes in making delicious nutritious™. She was born and raised in Iraan (sounds like IRA-ANN), Texas in the dusty, hot, hot heat of West Texas. Her little town was an hour from the nearest McDonald’s with nothing in between – no other towns, no people, no stores. All that was there in Iraan – population 1,200 – was a Dairy Queen, a soda fountain and a Mexican food restaurant.
With so few choices, Suzanne’s mom who was raised on a farm became the grocer, restaurateur, grower, harvester (you name it, she did it) for the family. She also taught Suzanne how to bake bread, cook, garden and even how to make mayonnaise.
Steeped in the lifestyle of homemade, homegrown food, Suzanne developed a passion for tinkering with recipes to transform delicious food into sources of improved nutrition. The better-tasting, better-for-you HapPea® Fries – made with chickpeas instead of potatoes – fully supports making delicious, nutritious.
A BETTER FRY
HapPea Fries are great with a variety of dips and sauces – check out our recipes. Being hearty and delicious, they replace other ingredients in food favorites such as the fries in Poutine (eh?), chips in nachos, the beloved corn chips in traditional Chili Cheese Pie, or the famous Kimchi fries from right here in Austin. Across the globe, fries have been given the local treatment - creating their own identity and “personality”. That’s why we love the fry so much - it’s the little black dress of the food world.
WHY CHICKPEAS?
Beans are loaded with health benefits: high in fiber, protein, and complex carbohydrates, low-glycemic and gluten-free.
Chickpea flour is simply dried chickpeas, also known as garbanzo beans, ground into a light, powdery flour.
Chickpeas are particularly rich in a variety of nutrients including:
• Protein - builds muscles and tissue
• Thiamin - facilitates conversion of food into energy
• Vitamin B6 - facilitates conversion of food into energy and boosts the immune system
• Vitamin K: - promotes blood clotting
• Iron - facilitates muscle and oxygen use via red blood cells
With that in mind, we like to say, why NOT chickpeas?
